Daily News Contributing WriterSo you like your home.
Or most of it, anyway.
It would be nice, you think to have energy efficient windows. Or new carpet. Then there
are the big ticket items - such add-ons as a new bedroom, bathroom or living room.
There are plenty of contractors in the remodeling business. But not as many work on mobile
homes. A niche carved out by Jeff Milowitz of Emerald Coast Construction.
Milowitz specializes in remodeling homes, whether they are mobile homes or
higher-end site built homes.
His company, Emerald Coast Construction, which is based in Navarre, was founded eight
years ago.
"You never get exactly what you want in a house that's on the market," he says.
"So if you like the are where you are, and you like your house except for a couple of
things, remodel. That way you get what you want."
Milowitz has remodeled almost every type of home imaginable.
"I took a 1,000 square-foot mobile home and turned it into a 3,200 square-foot brick
home," he boasts.
It was a relatively straight-forward project, he claims. He built a new foundation in
front and in back of the existing mobile home, placed new roof tresses over it, and simple
built around the house. He tied the new roof to the old one and added a brick exterior
finish.
But along the way, he says, he discovered a lot of hidden problems in the mobile home
itself. So instead of having them fixed, the homeowner opted to have the trailer hauled
off. Milowitz finished the interior, and the homeowner had a new home.
He says he's constantly surprised by what he finds when he gets into a project.
"You never know what you're getting into," Milowitz reports. |
